SAFF 2004

This weekend I went to Southeastern Animal Fiber Festival (SAFF) in Asheville, NC.

SAFF 2004

This image was originally 3 images, hence the breakage of the image. This show has grown immensely since 2002 when I first went to this festival with Robin. It was a great trip! I got to meet up with Robin who moved in August. It was wonderful to see her again and to see all the goodies different fiber places are producing and selling.

What did I buy? Well, here is what I purchased!
Purchases from SAFF

On the top left is some bleached tussah silk roving from Little Barn, some beautiful 100% superwash merino dyed in a yummy color from Danette Taylor Designs. Apparently her dyer did this beautiful colorway. I bought another one as a gift for someone, but I can't show it. The yarn below it is called DOTS, and was purchased from the same booth as where I bought the merino superwash. The plan is to make a chemocap from it. A project dear to my guild as one of our members is a cancer survivor whose hair is only recently growing back. Next item is some soap from The Blue Ridge Soap Shed. I love their soaps and this is a wonderful hand repair sampler from them.

The two balls of roving are from Wild Meadow Angora (no website available). They are 60% angora rabbit, 20% tussah silk, and 20% fine wool. And boy are they luscious to touch! The one on the left is the colorway "Blue Moon"; the other is "Blue Denim". And of course I purchased a small bottle of Eucalan lavender. I have enough fiber to last a long time, so no more buying for a while. I can't wait to spin some of the stuff I currently have up.

I also got to see some beautiful llamas and alpacas. I took some pictures. The top two are of llamas, the bottom one is of some shaved alpacas. Note the ears to tell them apart. The llamas have banana shaped ears, as Robin puts it, while the alpacas have straight ears. The white llama is a male and the mixed colored one is female. She was a sweetheart, wanting to sniff everyone in the face nose to nose. Llamas and alpacas are such lovely and graceful animals.

And of course who can resist this great shot of an angora bunny enjoying itself!
Bunny upside down

This bunny was at Nowhere Branch Angoras booth and hanging upside down as we happened to be walking by. I couldn't resist snapping a photo!

Well, I'm tuckered out from a very long drive and long weekend, so that's it for now! Happy fibering!
